Chelsea interested in Onana from Inter Milan and may consider player swap in deal
Chelsea is reportedly interested in signing goalkeeper Andre Onana for the upcoming season. According to the Italian newspaper ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’, the Blues are set to open talks with Inter Milan to bring the player to England. Inter values Onana at €40 million (approximately R$220 million). The two clubs’ officials have already held a meeting to discuss the potential transfer, and the nerazzurri have ruled out the possibility of taking Kepa to Milan.
Onana arrived at the Italian club as a free agent and now has the potential to earn Inter a significant amount of money. Given the good relationship between the two teams, it is expected that the transaction will take place, and Chelsea may involve defender Chalobah and midfielder Loftus-Cheek in the deal to try and reduce the fee for the goalkeeper.
Andre Onana, 27, played in 34 matches for Inter during the season and was one of the key players responsible for taking the club to the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League. His contract with the nerazzurri runs until 2027. Chelsea is keen to add more depth to their goalkeeper position and sees Onana as a top target for the summer transfer window.
Onana wants to play for Chelsea
Despite being suspended for a year after testing positive for a banned substance, Onana is still considered one of the most talented goalkeepers in Europe. Before joining Inter Milan, he played for Ajax, where he helped the team reach the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2019.
Chelsea is looking to build on their recent success and reinforce their squad for the upcoming season. They have already secured the signing of striker Romelu Lukaku and are looking to bring in more players to strengthen their title-winning team. The addition of Onana would add more competition for the starting goalkeeper position and provide more options for coach Thomas Tuchel.
The potential swap deal involving Chalobah and Loftus-Cheek is also seen as a smart move by Chelsea. Chalobah has been impressive in preseason matches and could provide Inter with a young, talented defender for the future. Loftus-Cheek, on the other hand, has struggled with injuries in recent seasons and could benefit from a change of scenery.
All eyes will be on the negotiations between Chelsea and Inter Milan as they attempt to reach an agreement for the transfer of Andre Onana. If the deal goes through, it would be a significant boost for both clubs as they look to compete for domestic and European titles in the upcoming season.
