Internazionale is closing in on the signing of Sommer from Bayern
With Cameroonian André Onana likely to leave, as he is very close to reaching an agreement with Manchester United, Inter Milan is in search of another goalkeeper. The name being speculated to reinforce the Italian club is Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who played for Bayern Munich in the last season.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano’s information, negotiations could progress. Sommer joined Bayern in the second half of the previous season after standing out for Borussia Monchengladbach.
The experienced 34-year-old goalkeeper was signed to take on the starting role after German Manuel Neuer suffered an injury. He played a total of 25 games and won the German Championship title. Now, with Neuer’s probable return, Sommer might once again lose his place.
Sommer would be a starter at Inter
For this reason, the goalkeeper is also considering the possibility of changing clubs and sees a good option in Inter Milan. Sommer has established himself in German football over the past nine seasons, but a league change could be important for the continuation of his career development, especially with the certainty of being a starter at Inter.
However, the Italians will only advance in negotiations for Sommer if Onana indeed completes his transfer to Manchester United. The English club is looking for a new starter after David De Gea was deemed insecure for such an important season.
It is expected that the clubs will reach an agreement soon, as Onana has reportedly already agreed to the salary terms with Manchester United. In addition to being considered one of the best goalkeepers in German football in recent years, Sommer has also been important for the Swiss national team.
He has participated in three editions of the World Cup (2014, 2018, and 2022), as well as two European Championships (2016 and 2021). Sommer won his first title in Germany while defending Bayern Munich. Now the player will embark on a new challenge in Italian football.
