João Cancelo could earn a second chance at Manchester City

João Cancelo has returned from his loan spell at Bayern Munich and is currently on the pre-season tour in Asia with Manchester City. The Portuguese player’s future in England remains uncertain.

There have been rumors of a possible move to Barcelona, although the transfer is somewhat complex due to the financial situation of the Catalan club. With Kyle Walker likely to depart for Bayern, there is a possibility that Pep Guardiola will give Cancelo a chance to play in the team.

However, a guaranteed spot in the right-back position is not assured, as the coach makes it clear that no player in the squad has a guaranteed starting position. If João Cancelo accepts Guardiola’s terms, he will be part of the squad for the upcoming season. The development in City’s transfer window is yet to be seen.

Barcelona interest in João Cancelo

Barcelona’s manager, Xavi Hernández, and football director, Mateu Alemany, support the idea of signing an established player like João Cancelo. On the other hand, the new sporting director, Deco, believes the priority should be a young talent and has even identified Iván Fresneda from Valladolid as a potential target.

Meanwhile, Cancelo played in the first game of the Asian tour last Sunday (23), being instrumental in the second goal scored by Erling Haaland. City started the match trailing 2-0 against Yokohama F-Marinos in Tokyo, Japan.

The English team managed to turn the game around and win 5-3, with João Cancelo providing a beautiful cross for Haaland to seal the victory with the last goal. The player is hopeful for a second chance under manager Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

The Citizens still have two more games to play: on Wednesday (26) against Bayern Munich at 7:30 AM (Brasília time) at the National Stadium of Japan, and on Sunday (30) against Atlético de Madrid at 8 AM at the Sang-am Stadium in Seoul, South Korea.
