Liverpool opens talks with Borussia Dortmund over Youssoufa Moukoko
Liverpool has had a long-term interest in Youssoufa Moukoko and will intensify negotiations in the next transfer window. The interest in the young Borussia Dortmund player would initially be a loan proposal from 2024.
This could be a good opportunity for the striker to win a place in the German senior team to play in the 2024 European Championship. Other admirers of the 18-year-old include Brentford and Wolverhampton. Liverpool has the naturalized German as a suitor, but has other priorities in the next transfer window.
Sebastian Kehl, Dortmund’s sporting director, downplayed rumors of a possible departure for Moukoko, saying recently that the club and the player do not consider it in the next window. He wants to keep the player on the roster until the end of the European season.

However, sources say Moukoko wants to be in Julian Nagelsmann’s plans for the European Championship. He knows he needs to play regularly to have the opportunity to represent Germany in the competition that will host.
With Sébastien Haller as the starter and the arrival of Niclas Füllkrug, Moukoko has had few minutes on the pitch this season. Of the 7 Bundesliga games so far, he has not yet started as a starter. He did not play the last 3 and in the previous 3 he had appearances of less than 10 minutes. Only in the club’s championship debut he played 31 minutes.
Raised through the youth teams of St. Pauli and BVB, the striker moved up to the senior team of the yellow and black in 2020/21. He came into the scene becoming the youngest to play in the Bundesliga, replacing Erling Haaland against Hertha Berlin with just 16 years and one day.
In the senior team, Moukoko has played 78 games for the yellow and black in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and providing 8 assists. He made his debut for the German national team in 2022, after scoring 8 goals in 8 games at the U-21 level. The attacker was also linked to recent controversies, due to a financial cut in aid to his parents, and also a question regarding his true age.
