Highlight from Sheffield, Ndiaye is yet another addition to Marseille

The dream has come true – that’s how Olympique de Marseille announced the arrival of the forward Iliman Ndiaye, formerly of Sheffield United. The player, a self-proclaimed Marseille fan, who had a stint in the club’s youth academy, was the standout performer for the English team last season.

During the 2022/23 season with Sheffield, Ndiaye was the player with the most goal involvements – 15 goals and 11 assists. Sheffield secured promotion back to the Premier League, finishing in second place in the Championship.

Marseille has been heavily investing in this transfer window. In the attack, Ndiaye will have the company of the newly-signed Ismaila Sarr, who was also in the Championship, but with Watford, and Pierre Aubameyang, formerly of Chelsea.

Olympique de Marseille is active in the transfer market

The French team has also brought in other important names, such as Kondogbia and Malinovskyi for the midfield and the Brazilian Renan Lodi for the left-back position. Olympique de Marseille is shaping up for an interesting transfer market, promising to compete for titles in the upcoming European season.

These reinforcements elevate the club’s status, and the love surrounding the team ensured a great deal this week: the signing of the 23-year-old forward Iliman Ndiaye. The Senegalese player made a notable impact in the last World Cup and was instrumental in Sheffield United’s promotion to the Premier League.

He was one of the standout players in the Championship, providing crucial goals and assists to his team. However, the young talent chose to follow his heart instead of proving himself in the top tier of English football. Being a Marseille fan since childhood, he signed with the club for five seasons in a deal costing €17 million to the French side.

Iliman Ndiaye’s arrival in Marseille was met with great warmth. Dozens of fans welcomed him with flares and enthusiastic singing. As a devoted supporter, the forward joined in with the chants. It’s a homecoming for him after spending a few months in the Marseille youth academy. Nevertheless, he was separated from the club due to family circumstances.
